Back to the Heart
Back to the Heart is a collection of brooches, necklaces and objects, which began from the canonical image of a burning heart – an ex-voto. Ex-votos are a form of prayer, where a person‘s plea or gratitude is condensed into one image, which is then usually made from silver and mounted in a church on a painting of a saint. The form of an ex-voto can be very concrete (e.g. an eye, which symbolizes regained sight) or non-specific, e.g. a burning heart – the symbol of life, faith and mercy. When creating this collection I thought about being tired from the noise of the art world and that in a time, which is filled with a desperate need for breaking every form imaginable, the pursuit of sacredness becomes a form of rebellion. During that time the form of the ex-voto infiltrated my mind to such an extent that I started seeing it everywhere, even in... pomegranates, whose peel became one of the main materials in my collection.
