Fig Leaves

Interior Spread

When was the first time someone wanted to wear jewellery? And when was the first time somebody wanted to cover up his body? While pondering that to prink and to cover up have a similar meaning, I started thinking about Adam and Eve, their naked being in the Garden of Eden and the sudden realization that they are naked, but only after the apple was eaten. It seems that after the eating of the fruit, man can never be as purely naked as he was until then, so there came a need for ever new ways of covering oneself – with clothes, houses, jewellery. My interpretation of fig leaves is a collection of painted brooches, which can decorate as well as cover, depending on the philosophy of the wearer.
